Eldora Mae Brewer (Poore)
Eldora Mae Brewer, 87, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2016, at the Gregory Wing, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She was born on June 9, 1928 to Clarence Poore and Ida (Hutchins) Poore of Boothbay, Maine. Eldora was the only child of Clarence and Ida, and went to local schools. Eldora’s father died when she was very young and she was raised by her mother, Ida, and her grandmother, Lavina.
Eldora married Wallace H. Brewer, Sr. on March 9, 1946, and they loved and raised four children together. She and Wallace also traveled with the carnival, with Wallace running the merry-go-round and Eldora selling tickets for the rides. She worked at the Boothbay Freezer for many years, and Harbor Motor Court as a chambermaid. She also used to shuck clams to sell door-to-door back in the 1950’s and ‘60’s.
Eldora loved to do her crafts, knit, and she made all kinds of different items. She also made Christmas wreaths and went to people’s homes to decorate their Christmas trees for them. Eldora loved all animals and had many beloved pets all of her life.
Eldora was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Wallace H. Brewer, Sr. She is survived by three children: Anna Morton of East Boothbay, Maine, Juanita Kristoff of Boothbay, Maine, and Joseph Brewer and his wife, Judy, of Stonington, Maine. She is also survived by her grandsons, Michael Leighton and wife, Heidi, of Boothbay, and Robert Morton and wife, Kim of East Boothbay, great grandsons, Mason and Lucas Leighton of Boothbay, and Robert and Connor Morton of East Boothbay, along with several more grand children and great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay on Monday, April 18, 2016 at noon. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eldora’s name to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
