Obituary for
Charles H. Stevens Sr.
Charles H. Stevens, Sr., 85, died April 4, 2015 at his home in Topsham. He was born August 9, 1929 in Gouldsboro to Bernice Keith and Nicholas Stevens. Charles was raised by his mother and stepfather, Douglas Young, Sr. He grew up in Gouldsboro and attended local schools. He joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and served in Korea during the Korean War.
Charles moved to Boothbay to work at Goudy and Stevens Shipyard and Hodgdon Brothers building minesweepers. He met his future wife, Priscilla Reed, while changing her flat tire after work one day; it was typical of Charlie to be helping someone out. He also worked for Walbridge Brothers for many years and eventually he worked, self-employed, as a plumbing and heating technician for many years until he retired.
