Obituary for
Marion N Hannemann
Marion Notz Hannemann passed away peacefully in her home August 21,2014. From “Away” she was born in Watervliet, New York to Martha B. Notz and Adolf Notz on April 15, 1920.
The youngest of three sisters, Marion grew up a Tom Boy gaining an appreciation for things wild. These interests changed as she grew older and she found out how useful her fathers lifetime rail pass was for getting to the culture of New York City. There she enjoyed the theater, shopping and sightseeing.
Marion completed her grade school education in the Menands New York public schools and finished her education at the Mildred Ely School for Girls. Her professional career was as a secretary for large companies in Albany, New York and Boston, Massachuetts, where she met her husband to be-Roger. They fell in love and were married for 66 years. He predeceased her by 21 days on August 5, 2014.
During WW II she was proud of her stint as a truck driver for the Red Cross. Upon the birth of her son she became a homemaker extraordinaire. Cooking, cleaning and especially mentoring her son to Martha Stewart standards.
She enjoyed many interests. Camping with family on Saponic Lake in Maine, collecting minerals, flower gardening, needlepoint and being a member of the MidCoast Shrine ladies.
Logging over 200 hours co-piloting in Roger’s Cessna 172, they flew on trips to Bermuda, Canada and across the United States. No stranger to the Dewey Decimal System was she, having worked as a volunteer in school and public libraries both in Maine and Massachuetts for the better part of 40 years.
Marion is survived by her son Paul T. and his wife Catherine J. Hannemann of St. George and her niece Jennifer J. and husband Lawrence D. Cutter of New Paltz, New York.
