Obituary for Virgil Charles Perkins

Virgil Charles Perkins, 81, of Hope, Maine, passed away on November 19, 2019, at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine. Virgil was born on April 6, 1938 in Houlton, Maine to Charles Augustus Perkins and Ruth Evangeline (Sutherland) Perkins.

He grew up in the Houlton area and attended elementary, middle school and graduated high school there. After high school he joined the Army National Guard from 1955 until 1966.

Virgil was a grade foreman on highway and road construction, and also worked as a foreman many years with Wayne Hilt of Hilt Construction in St. George.

He loved dancing with his wife Shirley at the Blue Goose, raising his family, taking care of the family farm and animals, carpentry and his own home renovations. He was a very dedicated and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all that knew him.

Virgil was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 46 years Shirley Mae Perkins, siblings Hazel Faulkner, Vivian Cummings, Geneva Sherwood, Lottie Moody, Daniel Perkins, nephew Bryan Puckett, step-children Eugene Philbrook, Robert Philbrook, Sharon Philbrook and granddaughter Kelly Lowe.

He is survived by his daughter, Susanne Perkins of California, son, Jonathan Perkins of Liberty, ME, daughter Dale Martz and Dwinal Tripp of Union, and daughter Lisa Martin and husband Joseph of Warren; daughter-in-law Dawn Hoche of St. George, 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his longtime, best friend and colleague Wayne Hilt of St. George.

The family will have a private graveside service in the spring.
