Obituary for Betsy H. Cunningham
Betsy H. Cunningham, “Nana”, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday, November 11, 2019, at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine.
Betsy was born to Marion Bryant and Muriel Light Bryant on November 21, 1935 at home in Nobleboro, along with three sisters. Betsy attended school in a one room school house in Nobleboro with all 8 grades, along with teacher Alice Spear. She then attended Waldoboro High School in Waldoboro, Maine.
Betsy went to work at GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro in 1963 and worked there for 31 years retiring in 1994. Betsy then started taking care of her two grandchildren Craig and Samantha Jackson, then other parents wanted her as a baby sitter, so over the next 15 years she took care of over 50 different children.
Betsy spent time in the winter braiding rugs and in the summer mowing the lawn with her tractor. She helped raking blueberries in the summer and spending time on Crawford Lake. She loved to cook for her family, making fudge (peanut butter), cookies and her famous lemon meringue pie.
Betsy was always there for her children Kendall Jackson and Adele Hills, grandchildren Craig Jackson, Samantha Randolph, Tracie McLain, Marcy O’Donnell; great grandchildren Taylor McLain, Alden McLain, Katrina McIntosh, Carter Jackson, Chace Jackson and Memphis Randolph.
Betsy was predeceased by her parents, grandparents Herbert Light and Aldena Light, sisters, Marion MacMahan and Ethelyn Barbour, Uncle Roy Light and Aunt Frances Jackson.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Carl Cunningham, Jr. of Waldoboro, son Kendall Jackson and his wife Tracey of Waldoboro and their children Samantha Randolph and husband Nick and son Memphis of Washington; son Craig Jackson and his wife Hillary and their children, Katrina, Carter and Chace of Waldoboro; daughter Adele Hills and her husband Greg of Waldoboro and their children, Marcy O’Donnell and her companion Dale Hahn of Washington; Tracie McLain and her husband Gavin of Washington and their children Taylor and Alden; sister Beverly Boivin of Warren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours as Betsy will be cremated and buried in the Lake View Cemetery in the spring.
