Edward George Fisher departed from this world peacefully and at home, on November 6, 2018. He was born in 1943 to Wilhelmina and William Fisher. He grew up in Bedford and Westport, Connecticut, and attended Choate Prep School and Cornell University. He worked for most of his life as an electrical engineer for Canberra Industries, and his work took him all over the world, often for extended stays in China. While still in college he married May Pat (Dix) Fisher, and together they had three children (the first born while they were still students at Cornell), and he later reflected that his children were his greatest source of pride about his life.

Although he was a brilliant engineer and had a stunningly quick and capable mind, his greatest loves were music and the outdoors. He was a very talented self-taught musician, and through the years he played in many bands of different genres (rock, bluegrass, folk), including a short stint with Chuck Berry. In recent years he was a fixture playing music at the Narrows Tavern on Tuesday nights, was a member of the Rusty Hinges, and loved any chance to make music with his son Justin.

He has logged many hours hiking and paddling all around the world especially the White Mountains of NH/Maine and the Maine coast. As his children will attest to, the snottier the weather and the more punishing the physical challenges, the happier he got, although he was always happy to relax half submerged in any body of wild water (river, ocean, stream) with a smile on his face and a glass of wine in his hand.

In 1997 he purchased a home in Waldoboro, Maine, which he shared for many years with his long time partner Caren Clark. He subsequently also bought a small island camp on Friendship Long Island, affectionately known as E-Cove.

Once he retired from his corporate career, he wanted to serve in the community that he now called home. In 2004 he participated in the Mid-coast Stewardship Program which led him to join the Medomak Valley Land Trust as a steward for the Burkett Mill Preserve. Later he helped to repopulate the Waldoboro Conservation Commission, volunteer for the Comprehensive Planning Committee and revitalize Waldoboro Day. He organized Waldoboro Day from 2008 until 2011. He streamlined the fundraising process, got participating vendors to help support the day’s activities and made sure that there was music throughout the day and into the evening. He loved Waldoboro and was pleased to contribute to the enhancement of this community.

Edward is survived by his partner Caren Clark of Waldoboro, his wife Mary Pat Fisher of Delhi, India, his three children: Marianne Vandiver (David) of Penobscot, Maine, Michelle Brand (Andrew) of Bristol, Maine, and Justin Fisher (Shannon Hunt) of Pasadena, CA, along with six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Pat de la Chappelle (Dick) and brother William Fisher (Diane) all of Anacortes, Washington.

There will not be a public memorial service, but we encourage you to take a hike, get out on the water, make some music with people you love, and laugh heartily at life’s joys and absurdities in Edward’s honor.
