Condolence From: Jeff Knapp
Condolence: Sometimes I get carried away and that previous writing is a good example. I neglected to offer my sincere wish that all the Campbell family find solace in the knowledge that AJ had more friends across the world than any of us, not even AJ, will ever know. You're connected to a man who made things better for other people without always getting the recognition. But the benefits of his work will go on for generations to come. Through the sadness, you should all be proud.

Condolence: We're still expecting to see AJ's name on the caller ID whenever the phone rings. Whenever a week went by without a couple of lengthy phone conversation, we'd wonder if something had happened to him. Sad to say, he's finally left us and we'll have to talk to him in the memories of our shared experiences over the last 8 years, fishing the Magalloway at Little Boy Falls, fishing Tim Pond in a Rangeley boat, roundtable discussions with other rodmakers, or working out history's mysteries for his new fishing history book out on the patio at my house over our favorite meal, coffee and cigarettes. Today's body of knowledge on American fishing tackle history has AJ's seminal work from the 1990's as one of it's cornerstones, and he was working on another. A few of us have some idea how that was going, as he discussed it with me the day before he died, explaining he'd rewritten it to reduce it from 13 to 11 chapters so it wouldn't be so overwhelming for his readers. His cigarette filters still lie on the bricks of our patio from his visit on that last day. We know he's gone and we'll never forget but if I see those filters I can pretend he's not far away and we'll see him again soon. Rest in peace, friend. And send us the final words to complete your new, and last, book.

Condolence From: Alan E. Williams
Condolence: Having known Alan for nearly 50 years Donna & I were very sad to hear of his passing. Throughout the '70's & '80's we spent many happy Sundays in East Boothbay with Alan, June and their boys. Later, life got in our way and, visits became much less frequent.
Alan was an unique character extremely intelligent and very interesting. Knowing Alan, and being able to call him a friend, was a true privilege!

Condolence: I've known AJ for over 25 yrs. and really miss having him around... he was always full of interesting facts about vintage tackle and it's makers... His book on the subject is still the most authoritative book on vintage tackle.. Boy, AJ, you touched me and Bonnie and so many others with your life and friendship! Your enthusiasm for fishing history will be missed but thank YOU for sharing your life and passion with us all.

Condolence: Tom and I were so sad to hear of AJ's passing, but to think of him always brings a smile to my face. He built fishing rods for us for years, (I count 14 in my garage here, and that isn't all of them!)
AJ also fished with us many times, and we so much enjoyed not only his knowledge, but his wit especially. We will very much miss his gentle and creative soul.
