Obituary for Clarence "Larry" Davis

Clarence "Larry"  Davis
Clarence “Larry” W. Davis, 84 of Boothbay, ME, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2017 at the Maine Veterans Hospice House at Togus in Augusta, ME.

Larry was born March 27, 1933 in Brunswick, ME, to Meyer L. Davis and Sara Blumenthal Davis.
He attended the Brunswick School System graduating High School in 1952. He served his country in the Navy (Rank) ADZ, from 1952-1956 as a Flight Engineer and Mechanic. He attended the University of Maine at Orono 1957-1962 receiving a Bachelors Degree in Wildlife Management. He completed post graduate courses from the University of Alaska and Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

As a fisheries biologist, Larry was employed by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Game, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and NOAA Fisheries at various locations in Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan and Alaska from 1957 through 1978.

He had a passion for outdoor activities including; hunting, fishing, camping and exploring, especially the regions of Northern Maine and Alaska.

Larry offered his community service as a Boothbay Planning Board and Tax Assessing Board member. He also belonged to the American Legion.

Larry was predeceased by his loving wife, Joyce, beloved canine companion, Charlie Hoss; brothers John (Ben) Davis, Maurice (Shaver) Davis, Donald (Dede) Davis, Harold (Stinky) Davis, Norman Davis, Richard (Ricky) Davis; and sisters Edith, Ina and Judy.

Surviving Larry include his daughter Sarah D. McNamara and son-in-law Scott M. McNamara of Cumberland, Maine, daughter Dianne L. Davis of Cumberland, Maine, brother Herbert L. Davis and his wife Ruth Davis of Bowdoin, Maine, sister Diane Dungey of Arizona, grandson Foster D. McNamara and granddaughter Rebecca M. D. McNamara of Cumberland, Maine, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Rd. Augusta,ME. Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1 p.m.

A celebration of life open house is planned for Saturday, September 30, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at 42 Twin Cove Rd. in Boothbay. Family and friends are welcome to visit.

No one loved dogs more than Larry, and many are with him now over the Rainbow Bridge. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
