Condolence: I was Victor's 8th grade teacher in Lebanon, Maine . Victor was an excellent student . Well behaved and respectful, he set an excellent role model for other youngsters . He was also a kind person . I last saw Victor last year when he joined his former 8th grade classmates and "old" teacher for breakfast . He looked amazingly well at this time . God bless you, Victor, and your loved ones . Ken Bowlen

Condolence: To Kole, Susan, Tara and all our Monhegan Friends,

We sit here in London, feeling bereft and quite far away from the man and the island on this day. Victor was island family for us. An uncle to the kids, a friend, teacher and caretaker to both family and home. His warm smile was one of the first things we'd see on the dock, and his handwritten scrawls about toilet flushing and water conservation around the house always made us laugh. He made buoys for the kids as a gift, who remember Victor as a laugher and fixer of things. If there were a true map of the Island, it's pipes and relationships and jerry-rigged (or Victor-rigged) systems, a thread of Victor would appear wound throughout, like plumbers tape binding its connections. We admired Victor as a father and community pillar, and are finding it hard to fill in the picture of Monhegan without him.

We celebrate Victor's life and the happiness and laughter he brought to so many.

With Love, Hannh and Izzy, Tamara and Alex

Condolence: Dear Sue, Kole and Tara,
What a great man and friend Victor was. On the days I had the boat, he always came to greet me and give me a hug. That's the way he was if he liked you.I remember giving him the pink and purple barbells to "work out" in the Winter while I was down in Jekyll Island for 2 months. I will miss him and will be at the service Saturday. Fondly Nat

Condolence From: John Caggiano
Condolence: Hi Susan and Kole and Tara. I am so sorry for your loss as well as mine and the Island's. It was always comforting to know that Vic was there whenever I thought of Monhegan. As you know we were very fond of each other and worked well together when I was spending a lot of time there. It is very painful to think that he is gone. I can't imagine what you are going through. I will be down in Maryland at the time of the memorial service, so this will have to suffice as a sign of my deep respect. I will see you when I am next on the Island. May sweet memories bring you peace and comfort, and soothe your pain. Much love, John Caggiano

Condolence: It was a cold October evening 2005, when I walked into the library on Monhegan looking for the safe place I call Alcoholics Anonymous. I'd never been to Monhegan. I was very new in my recovery. I was frightened to be so alone and far away from my group back home. There was Victor. Sitting there alone reading a book waiting for someone, anyone who needed the fellowship of AA. He was like the North Star sitting there under the one light that was on in the dark tiny library. It was like I found my way home... a shelter in a storm. A brother in recovery was there to guide me in my journey. He saved my life just by being there. Every year thereafter, I would come back to the island knowing that I would be safe, and I'd see my brother once again. I knew he'd be there in that library even if it was only him. And he'd welcome me like a brother would. And when I left the safety of the island, his words of wisdom and encouragement would echo in my mind as the island faded away and the mainland came into focus. I could travel on... knowing my brother always had my back.
Rest Easy, brother... till we meet again, I hold your words like a treasure in my hands.
