Obituary for
Lottie Gracie Upham (Whitney) (Whitney)
Lottie (Whitney) Gracie Upham, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 12, 2012 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. She was born on June 18, 1927 in Union, ME the daughter of the late Clarence and Marion Calderwood Whitney. She grew up in Union and attended local schools and was a graduate of Union High School class of 1945. After school she married her first husband Stanley in 1947 and the two made their home in Washington.
She was a homemaker and raised four children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed Thanksgiving and preparing a Walton family style meal. Her specialty was her lemon meringue pie, no matter how good the pie turned out she never seemed to be quite happy with the way her meringue would turn out.
She was a lifetime member of the Grange and belonged to the White Oaks, Penobscot and Evening Star Chapter where she served as a past master. She was an avid walker always getting in at least two miles daily. She loved puzzles and always had one going and when her grandchildren would come over she would enlist their help to find the tricky pieces. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and the family said that there was a special rule when the grandkids stayed “what happens at Nanny’s stays at Nanny’s”. In the winter time she would love to go sliding and tobogganing with the grandchildren. She truly loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family.
She was predeceased by her first husband of 45 years Stanley Gracie
